How much does a fence cost per foot in 2026?

Typical installed: chain-link $15-$30/LF, wood privacy $30-$55, vinyl $35-$65, aluminum $40-$80. An 8-ft fence runs ~35% more than 6-ft; 4-ft about 20% less. Gates add $150-$800 each.

How many posts do I need?

Length ÷ spacing (8 ft standard, 6 ft for wind), rounded up, plus one end post - plus one per gate. 150 ft at 8-ft spacing with one gate ≈ 21 posts.

Is DIY worth it?

Materials run about 45-50% of installed price. The savings are real, but post setting is where DIY fences fail - dig depth, plumb, and concrete cure make or break the fence.
